About the DGCA RTR Exam

What is the DGCA RTR(A) Exam?

The DGCA RTR (Radio Telephony Restricted) examination is a mandatory certification for all student pilots and CPL candidates in India. It tests your ability to handle radiotelephony in real flight scenarios following ICAO DOC 9432 procedures — exactly as required in actual airline operations.

RTR Part 1 is a written MCQ test covering 23 topics including ITU regulations, Q codes, SELCAL, GPS, ILS, NDB, radio waves, AFTN, GAGAN, and ICAO procedures. RTR Part 2 is a practical oral examination where you conduct live radiotelephony across all 6 flight phases — Parked, Taxi, Departure, Enroute, Emergency, and Arrival — in front of two DGCA examiners.

The exam is conducted in batches of 16 students. You sit at a computer, interact with examiners via a push-to-talk button, and are assessed on phraseology accuracy, readback completeness, and situational awareness. You have 3 attempts after passing Part 1, with a 6-week cooling period between failures.

AIVR replicates every aspect of both parts — giving you the most exam-accurate preparation available in India. Officially partnered with Doc.Pilot10 for complete CPL + RTR preparation.

Why most students fail RTR Part 2

Most failures come from insufficient practice — not lack of knowledge. Knowing the phraseology is not enough. You must practice speaking it under exam pressure, handling emergencies calmly, and giving complete readbacks without hesitation. AIVR exists to close this gap.
